Chloe frowned when she tried to unlock her apartment's door and it was already unlocked. She figured Lois hadn't come home yet since she hadn't called to let her know she was alive, even though her cellophane was dead, Lois had the number to the boys' place so she'd have called, right? Shutting the door behind her, she saw Lois' bag over the table and frowned again. Maybe she wouldn't after all... "Lois?" She called and waiting a whole second for a reply, she didn't get one, she called louder, "LOIS?"
Lois opened the door to the bathroom, her hands tangled up in the towel that she was using to dry her hair. "Yeah?" she responded duly, tugging on the blue terrycloth.
Making her way to the bathroom, Chloe let out a sigh of relief when she say her cousin and asked all at once, "Where were you? Why didn't you call me? Are you okay? What happened?"
Lois glanced at her face in the mirror, frowning at the circles under her eyes. "What question do you want me to answer first, hon? I'm sorry I worried you."
Chloe smiled at Lois, "Its okay. What happened, I think." She said as she sat down on Lois' bed.
"Chasing a story, or rather, a very dead lead all over town." Dropping her towel on the floor, Lois walked tiredly to her closet and pulled out a t-shirt, shrugging it on over the towel wrapped around her body. "You asked, so I get to ask: where in the hell were you?" Turning around, she gave her cousin the once over. "I came home at 4 am and you were gone."
Chloe raised her eyebrows, "If you have been home since 4am, why didn't you call me? Didn't you see my note?"
Lois gave Chloe a look, "If I had seen your note, I wouldn't have asked. And I tried calling, your phone battery is dead."
"I know, I was just at the boys', ended up sleeping with Clark." Chloe said with a shrug.
Lois paused, staring blankly at the row of jeans and slacks hung in her closet as her mind raced over Chloe's statement. She was going to kill Clark and then call her father so that the body would never be found. Just pieces of him scattered all over the country side and Lois would have a pleasant memory as she was sitting in a therapists office describing how messed up she was over having slept with the same man her cousin, her best friend had. "Really?" she muttered, surprised that her voice sounded so even..
Chloe laid back onto Lois' bed and nodded absently, she hoped Clark would be okay, he was still upset when she left, "Yeah he was kinda depressed last night and since I didn't have anything to do I said I'd come over."
"And farmboy fulfilled the Chloe Sullivan dream circa 1999?" Lois asked, still unable to turn around and face Chloe.
Chloe blinked and supported herself on her elbows so she could look at Lois, "What?"
Glancing over her shoulder, Lois raised an eyebrow. "Sleeping with Clark?"
She snickered and fell back on the bed, "Not like that Lo." Sitting back up again she continued, "We were just talking and fell asleep on the couch. I should have been more specific." She said with a grin.
Lois narrowed her eyes at Chloe, reading the smugness on her cousins face. "Yeah? Sounds like a killer evening."
"I'm sure it just as exciting as chasing leads with Johnson." She smirked at her cousin, "It was actually nice, It had been a while since Clark and I talked like that."
Lois didn't correct Chloe's assumption that she had been working on something for The Daily Planet and turned back to her closet, eyeing the clothes in a pile on the floor. "What did you two discuss?"
"Stuff, people we knew in Smallville, his dad... He was kinda upset and thinking too much you know?" Chloe shrugged again, she didn't wanna tell Lois it was about Whitney, if Clark wanted her to know (which he probably didn't) he'd have to tell her himself.
"Smalltown thinking too much? That's got to be a first." She picked up a pair of dark blue shorts from the pile and examined them before sliding them on.
Chloe rolled her eyes and grinned "Anyway," she said, giving Lois a moment to look at her, "Wally came over last night, right?"
"And you have food poisoning?" Lois guessed, plopping down in the computer chair at the foot of the bed.
"Surprisingly, the food was very good." She said as she kicked off her shoes and crossed her legs Indian-style on the bed.
Lois kicked her feet up on the bed, laying them next to Chloe's. "Really? So someone actually cooked a decent meal at chez Sulliane?"
Nodding, Chloe said, "Yeah, but that's not the point."
She raised an eyebrow. "Did you get his point then?"
Ignoring Lois' question, she continued, "We were having dessert and dad called and I mentioned Wally was here so you know dad and he started joking and I must have said something like 'No dad, you don't have to kill him'." Chloe grinned, "You should have seen how fast Wally bolted from the apartment."
Lois snickered, "Poor Wally. You'll never see him again."
"Nah, he left his chef hat here. Somehow I think he has a ritual and refuses to cook without it." She said with a shrug before looking at Lois, "What was the story?"
"Chef hat? Can we do something bad with that?" Lois asked, ignoring the question.
"I intended on giving it back to him," She paused and grinned, "And during the occasion, I'd ask him to come up with better lies than going to visit his aunt who lives across the country overnight.
She laughed, kicking her foot playfully against Chloe's "Sounds like the experiences you had back in Smallville. "Sorry, I had to go Chloe. My dad needed me to wash his hair.'"
Chloe laughed and smacked Lois' foot, "At least he had a reason to lie and leave."
Lois shrugged, "And visiting his aunt wasn't?" She laughed at Chloe's frown and quickly changed the subject. "So, nice flowers."
"Yeah, that. I have no idea what Wally was thinking." She frowned deeply, "Infact, I have no idea how those flowers got here. He didn't have them when he arrived."
"Another Wall of Weird mystery?"
"Could have been a few years ago." Chloe said with a shrug.
Lois nodded, settling into the chair, her hands over her stomach. "So it was a good dinner then?"
"Yeah, would have been nicer if I knew his motives." She frowned looking down at her nails.
Lois hit Chloe's foot with hers, saying gently "He likes you."
Chloe rolled her eyes, "Honestly, Lois, it's Wally, he likes anything that moves."
"Enough to make them dinner and bring them some seriously beautiful flowers?" Lois sighed. "Because those are amazing."
"Well if that's the case, then I really have to start worrying."
"Because Wally is great but he is... Wally."
Lois shrugged, leaning over to pick up a piece of paper on the floor. She examined it for a moment before tossing it in the desk. "Then tell him you want to be friends."
"I don't think it's going to come to that." Chloe said, laying back down, on her side so she could face Lois, "He asked to meet Lana."
"Lana?" she asked slowly. "Why?"
"The subject just came up." Chloe said, "Speaking of which, how were things with Lana after I left the other night?"
"She left after you did." Lois replied absently, the gears in her head spinning over Wally and Lana.
Chloe just nodded and turned on the bed, staring a the ceiling and being silent for a moment before saying, "Lex replied to me."
Lois sat still for a second, before looking at Chloe, trying not to convey any eagerness. "Yeah?"
"Yeah, of course he pretended nothing had happened and his reply on text message was only 'you have a date with Wayne on the 17th.'"
"Huh." Lois' mind wandered to her messenger bag and the tape recorder in there, mind running again.
"Yeah..." Chloe decided not to tell Lois about chatting with Lex after that, she wasn't sure why.
Shaking her head, promising herself to listen to the tape later, Lois sat forward. "So, should we talk? About the research?”
Chloe sat back up on the bed, "Sure, have you got anything else?"
Lois shrugged, "Just more thoughts on Lucas and the Hardwicks. I don't think we're chasing anything of substance."
"No, I don't think so either. But it'll serve to at least rull them out. I wanna check on Bryce and Edge as you suggested, they worked with or for Lionel after the ones we looked into." Chloe made a face, "I don’t have any names for people who worked for Lionel after I did. I don’t think..."
"Like we'd have access to them anyway. There's probably one guy who knows and he's dead."
"Yeah I know, we have to--" Chloe paused and if she were a cartoon, a light-bulb would have lighten up over her head, "Wait, I might have something..." She got up and dashed into her room, returning moments later with a file. She plopped back onto the bed, "Okay, there was this guy who was moved to Lionel's cell while he was in jail, I know I have his name here somewhere..." She flipped through the pages, "Here, Edgar Cole." She looked up at Lois, "According to what I found this guy was, is, some sort of super genius Lionel decided to use for whatever reason."
Lois sat forward to examine the papers, "Huh. So, where is he now?"
"Washington, last he was seen. Now I don’t think he is dangerous but he probably works for dangerous people. According to some logs, right after he moved into Lionel's cell, there was a big fight in prison, Lionel got beaten and the following day, Cole was bailed out, the name of the person who paid for his bail, is of course, undisclosed." Chloe said, rolling her eyes. "But I think this person wanted to make sure Lionel didn't have that man under his power."
"But Lionel came out of jail a 'changed man'." Lois muttered, sitting back. "Why would he want to keep Cole under his thumb? What was Cole doing for Lionel that would be so important."
Chloe shook her head, "That’s the point, this person was probably one of Lionel's enemies, they wanted to take the only 'weapon' Lionel could have away from him so he could rotten in jail for the rest of his life. And to bail someone from that prison and keep your name undisclosed, you had to have power meaning this person should definitely be on our list."
Lois nodded, "Of course. I'm also assuming that the person might be someone we're already looking into though. They all have the power and the money to have it done. What I'd like to know though, is if they also got Lionel out of prison." She reached out and tapped Chloe's shelf of papers, "Because the way he got out? Not on the up and up."
"Nothing about the Luthor would be." Chloe said, pausing to think, "Okay but why would an enemy want to take Lionel out of jail? I mean, there is the place he was the less powerful."
Lois shook her head, "Maybe what they wanted from him, they couldn't get with him in jail. If it involved LuthorCorp, Lionel would have been able to do nothing."
"And then they got what they wanted and got rid of him when he was no longer useful?"
She sat back in her chair, mentally weighing the possibilities. "Yeah, maybe."
Chloe sighed, "Why did that bastard have to have so many enemies?"
"I think you just need to look at what you just said. Bastard."
"We need the suspects list from the FBI. It would be a good place to start from... If I knew your dad wouldn't forbid us of ever looking into any of this again, I'd tell you to ask him for it. He probably has access, no?"
Giving Chloe a look, Lois sighed "You did pass Government, right? There is no way in hell the General is going to get his hands on that list unless he has a damn good reason."
"He did work with Lex Luthor that summer, Lo. He must at least know more than we do."
She threw up her hands; "It means shit when it comes to the military cooperating with the FBI. Dad knows about as much as the papers report."
Chloe plopped down the bed again, "The more I look things up, the more I try to find out, the less I believe this person will ever be caught. It must be someone extremely powerful like Lionel was when he got away with all those murders."
Lois said nothing, nodding absently in agreement.
"What is it?" Chloe asked, looking at her cousin who obviously had something on her mind.
"Just thinking" Lois smiled, trying to banish thoughts of Lex Luthor from her mind. "You know. Possibilities."
Chloe smiled back, "Yeah I'm even almost afraid to ask..." She yawned.
Lois shook her head, turning her head to look out her bedroom door. "Probably not. I was thinking that circus freaks probably murdered Lionel Luthor. You know, the usual."
She lazily nodded, "Sure and I'm hungry."
"I ate the Wally leftovers." Lois dragged her feet down from the bed, setting them on the floor. "Or what I'm assuming were the leftovers from Wally. Because if they weren't, only god knows how long they were in our fridge."
Chloe laughed, "It was Wally's. I think that was the only eatable thing in there. We need to go grocery shopping soon."
Lois waved her hand dismissively, "Sure. Remind me to do that around the time I kiss Johnson's big fat ass."
"You did that last night." Chloe said sitting up on the bed again, "Lets just go now since we're not doing anything."
"I did what last night?"
"Kissed Johnson's big fat ass."
Raising an eyebrow, Lois stood slowly. 'There was no kissing of big fat ass last night, thanks."
"Ah just sucking of limp dick then?"
Leaning over the bed, Lois gave Chloe a bright smile and said before she thought it through "Not Johnson’s and not limp."
Chloe raised an eyebrow and lowered her head a little, "Yeah?"
"Yeah." Lois said, nodding.
"Whose big hard cock did you suck, Lo?"
Grinning, Lois bent over and kissed Chloe on the forehead. "No one you know. And it was great, tell the world." She straightened and pulled on the bottom of her shirt in satisfaction.
Chloe frowned and almost bounced on the bed, "C'mon Lois! Tell me, who was it??"
"Guy at work." Lois shrugged. "You were right. Much better second time around."
"Really?" Chloe smiled, "Good for you, Lo. So i was right about where you were after all..."
Stretching, Lois patted the strip of stomach that shown under her shirt. "Yeah." Suddenly uncomfortable with the line of conversation, Lois dropped her arms.
She grinned, "I told Clark you were with that guy."
Lois paused, peering closely at Chloe "You told Smalltown what?"
Chloe nodded and shrugged, "Yeah, too bad it was online, he probably blushed when I said the guy was bad in bed."
"We're telling everyone everything now?" she asked, her voice accidentally going up several notches.
Chloe's eyes widened almost comically. Lois was pissed, that much was clear the why though... "I'm... sorry Lo. I was worried and babbling, I didn't think you'd mind, especially since I told Clark of all people. I'm sorry."
Her mouth gaped like a fish as she tried to cover "Yes, because Kent knowing details of my sex life is what I want."
"Sorry" She said again, "I had no idea you would mind. I mean we're always telling Clark stuff to see hum squirm so." Chloe shook her head, "But of course, I shouldn't have told him something you told me. I wasn't thinking."
Lois shook her head, sighing. It wasn't Chloe's fault that she didn't know and chewing her out wasn't an option. "Nah, Chlo'. It's okay." She gave her cousin a grin and patted her on the arm. "Tell everyone you want."
Chloe raised her eyebrows, confused by Lois' behavior. "No, I really shouldn't have." She smiled, "Anyway I don't think he really paid any attention to what I was saying."
"I'm sure." Lois reassured Chloe, wondering how much trouble she was in with Clark. What shocked her again, is the idea that she cared.
Chloe just smiled at Lois.
